Well, there is some good news for Medicare recipients: President Obama is sending all of you a check for $250 dollars! In fact, the check is in the mail! Here is the bad news: do you remember during the debate about National Health Care when Humana sent that letter out to its Medicare Advantage customers advising that ObamaCare would cut benefits, and criticized ObamaCare for its impact on Medicare Advantage plans? Remember how in response to that letter, Senator Max Baucus and Medicare went after Humana and issued a gag order. Well, it turns out Humana was right and Medicare’s own actuary, Richard Foster estimated $206 billion will be cut from Medicare Advantage plans by ObamaCare causing insurers to withdraw from the program. Douglas Elmendorf and his team at the Congressional Budget Office came to the same conclusion. And guess what, that is exactly what Humana told customers would happen. Medicare and Senator Baucus called it misleading and confusing to beneficiaries and then issued their gag order.
Well, I guess Mr. Foster at Medicare and Mr. Elmendorf at the CBO didn’t get the memo, hence their honest assessment of the $206 billion cut to Medicare Advantage plans. Politicians like Claire McCaskill, Dick Durbin, Emanuel Cleaver and others are going to have a lot of questions to answer as seniors discover what ObamaCare is really going to do to Medicare Advantage plans.
